Margaret (Hall) Hemphill passed away after a long and beautiful life on September 8, 2019, at the age of 96 in Somers, NY. Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, IA, with Rev. Brenda Willis officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Anderson Funeral Homes in Marshalltown. Online condolences may be directed to www.andersonfhs.com.
Margaret was born to Ross and Rita (Lewis) Hall on Jan. 6, 1923, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1941 and on May 28, 1944, she married the love of her life, the late James F. Hemphill. During her 88 years in Iowa, Margaret worked as a secretary, a salesperson in a dress shop and, for many years, she was the librarian at the Gutekunst Library in State Center, Iowa. She was active in the Methodist Church, PEO, and Meals on Wheels. Margaret lived with her daughter, Judy, in Mahopac, NY, for the last nine years where she enjoyed reading, participating in Chair Zumba at the local Senior Center, and doing crossword puzzles. Her Methodist faith was very important to her and she was an active member of her church. Spending time with her family was extremely important to her and her greatest joy in life was seeing her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Douglas, Caroline, and Meredith, and her great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and James. Margaret will be greatly missed by her family and friends, but her love and devotion to all those she loved will live on in their hearts.
Margaret is survived by her loving children, son Jeff and daughter-in-law Susie Hemphill of Ames, Iowa, son Jim and daughter-in-law Sarah Hemphill of Austin, Texas, and daughter Judy Maier of Mahopac, NY; her cherished grandchildren, Douglas and Cathy Maier, Elizabeth and Mike Pecoraro, Meredith and Caroline Hemphill, and Bill and Tim Hartman; and two precious great grandchildren, Gabrielle and James Pecoraro. She is predeceased, sadly, by her husband of 40 years, James F. Hemphill.
Dear ones, I am so sorry to hear of Margaret's passing. Our parents were close Marshalltown friends. Lee and Beth Beasley. I have fond memories of our families as a child. My deepest condolences to you and your family. Karen Beasley Edgington
