Jean was born July 17, 1935, in Gladbrook, IA, to Caroline and Otto Schmidt. She was united in marriage to Dale Nablo on October 30, 1955, and lived in Marshalltown where they raised three children: Phyllis, Donald, and Rick. Jean was a long-time employee of the Marshalltown School System working as a para-professional and an aid for Head Start. She loved to have the students she had worked with come up years later with remembrances of their time together.
Jean is survived by her children: Phyllis (Dave) Van Dyk, Donald (Cindy) Nablo, Rick (Paula) Nablo; her siblings: Ron Schmidt, Lois Eggers, Gin Shoup, Sara Havel; nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
Dear Jean, thank you for the precious memories and wonderful stories. Every time I have a yummy Chia Squeeze I will think of you. Rest in peace until we see each other again.
I remember many years ago when my daughter was in Head Start and she always seemed to keep them on their toes. I remember one time when she told them she had to go to the bathroom and they let her go...Time passes and Kathy had not returned so out looking for her Jean went...Jean found her in the kitchen helping the cooks.. Guess Kathy got bored she told Jean. Our family thought the world of Jean and the love she showed her kids. Rest in peace Jean.
Phyllis, I am so very sorry to hear about your mom. Prayers are going out to you and your family. Love you always. Myrna Ulery
