Glenna Mae Lewis was born September 28, 1932, to Harvey and Edith (Ethrington) Lewis in Fowler, CO. At age six, the family moved to Iowa. She attended country school near Zearing, IA, and graduated from Zearing High School in 1951 as Class Salutatorian. Glenna received a teaching degree from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) and taught school in Laurel and Hubbard School Districts. In 1955, Glenna was united in marriage to Murray Carver and they raised three children in Marshalltown. Glenna left the teaching profession to raise her children and then later worked for Fisher Controls for a number of years. In 1978, Murray and Glenna moved to the Dallas, TX, area as part of the Lennox Industries corporate relocation and Glenna then worked for Lennox in Dallas for many years. Murray and Glenna later divorced. After retiring from Lennox in 1997, Glenna moved back to Marshalltown. In retirement, Glenna loved tending to her vegetable garden, growing beautiful flowers, preparing wonderful meals, and spoiling her grandchildren, who were the love of her life.
Glenna is survived by three children: Rodney Carver of Batavia, IL, Douglas (Rhonda) Carver of Des Moines, IA, Suzanne (Tom) Mead of rural Marshalltown; seven grandchildren: Jason (Tiffany) Carver of Gilbert, AZ, Corey (Val) Carver of Plainfield, IL, Allison (Brian) Kohlman of Des Moines, IA, Katie (Dan) Biehn of Cumberland, IA, Kristen (fiance Tanner Walker) Carver of Des Moines, Kaley Mead of Milwaukee, WI, and Cody Mead of Marshalltown. Glenna is also survived by four great granddaughters and one great grandson, one brother, Earl (Sharon) Lewis of Urbandale, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty Rench, and brothers Chuck, Raymond, Eugene, and Kenny Lewis.
So sorry for your loss... mostly this is to Earl, just wanted you to know I remember when that pretty young teacher came to Laurel. I didn’t have her for a teacher, but I remember seeing her in the halls and on the playground. I don’t remember what grade we were when she came, but I remember her... I talked with Beth yesterday on the phone and she didn’t remember either, but Glenna left a lasting impression. Marilyn Ceaser Riggins, Class of ‘58
